The Swallow's Nest

A novel about the USAF in Morocco, circa 1963

Sidi Slimane, Morocco was the site of a United States Strategic Air Command reflex air base which was closed in 1963.  It was an assignment that no one wanted (dung heaps and sand).

The Swallow's Nest-Sidi Slimane is the story of those men and women who served in that Air Force Base, at the time of its closure.  As told by an enlisted man, this is the story of those who sacrificed and fought a silent but destructive war against the encroachments of the KGB and its efforts to establish an espionage net that would stretch from North Africa to Washington D.C.

The era of the post-Cuban crisis and pre-Vietnam was crucial.  This book takes place during that time.  The Soviet Union and its KGB third and fourth directorates were active in the closing of American air bases throughout the free world.

The Swallow's Nest-Sidi Slimane vividly preserves the character and lifestyles of those who experienced it.
