Cattle War

A novel about the Border War with Mexico in the 1870's

Los Moras is the creek that provides the life to Fort Clark and Bracket.  One post commander has signed out on leave and deserted without leaving a trace.

A private has killed an officer and stabbed the Mess Sergeant.  While in the stockade he comes down with the "pox."

The Comanche, the Lipan, and the Kickapoo have made life miserable for the settlers and soldiers alike.

Gunfighters like King Fisher and Mexican bandits like General Juan N. Cortina steal cattle from as far north as the King Ranch.

President U. S. Grant authorizes a secret raid on Mexico.  Col. Ranald Mackenzie is chosen for the job.  Assigned as the new Commanding Officer for Forts Clark, Duncan, and Ringold, he sends a captain, a Seminole-Negro scout, the sergeant major, and a private to stop Juan Cortina.
